A survey by online jobs board CareersinAudit.com has revealed that half of accountants are actively seeking new positions. Apparently that figure will have risen to 75% within 12 months.

This begs the question, why are these accountants so unhappy? It certainly needn’t be the case…

What’s particularly striking is how 80% of respondents said that they wanted to remain in the profession for life, or at least the next 5-10 years. This illustrates how their apparent discontentment is not due to the nature of their work, but instead the nature of their working environment.

In any workplace, it’s crucial that staff are happy and motivated and this can only be achieved in a fun and professional working environment. When the office ceases to be a pleasant place, it’s natural for workers to become less concerned about whether things are going well or badly.

The end result is that service to customers will suffer.

This latest study should be a reminder to all accountancy firms across the UK about the importance of ensuring that their accountants are able to work in an atmosphere which allows them to flourish. Otherwise, they may take their expertise elsewhere!
