With conference season in full flow, last week myself and the Crunch team were up at The Business Show at the ExCel, showcasing our software and providing tax and accounting advice to the eager entrepreneurs in attendance – of which there were many!

I’ve been around the business show circuit many times now, and something that struck me this year was the huge amount of people preparing to make the leap into self-employment. Usually these shows are packed with established small businesses looking for new suppliers, but that didn’t feel the case this year. Instead, aspiring entrepreneurs were in abundance!

Luckily looking after new businesses is what we’re all about, so we provided as much assistance as we could at the Crunch stand;  we explained tax issues, the benefits of going limited, and answered any and all accounting queries our visitors had. Judging by the feedback, it looks like the team did a good job!

An exciting part of the Business Show were the 250 free seminars on offer, and I was lucky enough to be able to give a talk titled ‘How to create a disruptive business that is exit ready’.

Drawing on my experience setting up Pure360, and the ongoing journey of taking Crunch’s from startup to a top 100 accountancy firm, I explained how’s it’s possible to create a lean startup and get your business idea off the ground, despite a lack of funding.

My presentation focused on the importance of things like choosing the right sort of branding, as well as building talented teams and selling constantly – things I’ve learned are crucial to early business success.

The whole team had a fantastic (if slightly exhausting) time over the two days of the Business Show, and we’re already looking forward to doing it all again next year.

In the meantime, if you simply cannot wait to meet the team, feel free to join us at our next event on 18th July at Google Campus, where our accountants will be available to field all your tax questions!
