We’re big fans of the Brighton Digital Festival at Crunch Towers. Now in its third year, this month-long event celebrates all that is great about Brighton’s burgeoning digital and arts communities. In the past we’ve sponsored events, but this year we thought we’d put on some of our own as part of the Festival’s Open Studios strand.
So, for the last week in September our doors will be open for a series of evening events focusing on all the things we’re passionate about; freelancing, accountancy, entrepreneurialism and technology. All will be totally free to attend, and we’ll be providing some refreshments.
Monday 23rd September – Accounting and tax workshop
Are you a freelancer, contractor or small business wanting to brush up on your accounting and tax knowledge? Join our senior accountants from 6pm for an evening of tips, advice and guidance on all aspects of small business accounting and tax. We’ll begin with a short presentation covering:
- Recent legislation changes
- Upcoming changes to be aware of
- Overview of the current tax landscape for SMEs
There will be an open Q&A session afterwards, and the opportunity to chat individually with our accountants should you wish. This will be a fairly informal evening and we hope to have a broad range of businesses in attendance.
Tuesday 24th September – Achieving freelancing awesomeness
The Freelance Advisor team invite you to an evening of insightful discussion with a panel of veteran freelancers from in and around Brighton, starting at 6pm.
We’ll be discussing matters such as finding new clients, credit control and business development, and there’ll be the chance to meet plenty of fellow freelancers and make some new connections.
Wednesday 25th September – How to build a disruptive business
Our third event, in two parts, will focus on how to make your business smash paradigms, break moulds and throw spanners into various works.
First, our Technical Director Nick Doyle and Developer James Burt will talk about the increasing importance of open APIs. Following several recent controversies, many large companies have questioned the importance of simple access to data and services. Drawing on Crunch’s experiences, Nick and James will discuss the history and future of APIs, their importance for disruptive businesses and the dangers of walled gardens.
Secondly, Crunch MD Darren Fell will be giving a talk on how to create a business that really shakes things up.
Drawing on his experience setting up Pure360 (now Brighton’s largest email marketing firm) and Crunch (soon to be Brighton’s largest accountancy firm – fingers crossed!), Darren will run through the highs and lows of taking on an entire industry. After both presentations there will be open Q&A sessions, and a chance to chat with fellow entrepreneurs.
Thursday 26th September – The future of accountancy firms Join our Chief Accountant Steve Crouch and Training Manager Laura Hughes for a discussion on what the future holds for accountancy firms. Crunch is at the forefront of the cloud accounting revolution, and Steve and Laura have some big ideas as to where it will take us in the near future. If you’re a fellow accountant (trainee, qualified or otherwise!), interested in accountancy, the cloud or practice management this would be a great session to attend. Register for this event
Unfortunately we’ve had to cancel our Future of Accountancy Firms event due to a scheduling conflict! We’ll be re-organising it soon, so keep an eye on our Twitter feed.
