Professional services businesses are offering a record number of jobs to help fuel growth and further expansion, according to the latest CBI report.

The number of jobs on offer in the professional services sector reached its highest rate in nearly seven years and is expected to be running at the strongest level since the survey began in 1998.

The figures, published today, showed accountancy, legal and marketing businesses are leading the way in the sector, despite growth in professional and consumer services slowing over the past three months.

Katja Hall, CBI deputy director general, said the slowdown did not mean a slow-down or reverse in recovery.

She said:

“It’s encouraging that our service sector firms continue to feel upbeat especially when looking ahead to the next quarter.”

A large proportion of firms surveyed stated that, rather than slowdown, their main concern is whether they can recruit the number and/or the quality of employee they require.

Professional services businesses in particular are concerned they will not be able to fill vacancies.
