A new survey has found over half of the country’s businesses would like to see the UK renegotiate their relationship with the European Union.

The British Chambers of Commerce talked to 3200 businesses about the EU. They found that 60% thought some powers should be returned to Westminster in order to support the UK’s economy and businesses.

The majority were in favour of remaining in the EU suggesting they see some benefit of our links with the continent. In spite of that, 46% feared and further integration would have a negative effect.

John Longworth, BCC director general, said: “Unless the European Union is perceived to function in the interests of all of its member states, it will continue to lose legitimacy not just among the voting public but among business people as well. The prospects for UK business and trade would be improved substantially if meaningful EU reform were to take place.”
