About Crunch:

Crunch is a multi-award winning Software as a Service (SaaS) company born in the heart of Brighton with a brilliant team of 130, and over 40,000 users of our software. Together, we single-handedly pioneered a complete online accounting solution to empower self-employed contractors, freelancers and micro-businesses in the UK, helping them to grow their business and create the lives they want as part of a powerful community.

Now we no longer have a large office base as we embrace remote-first ways of working, the role offers you the opportunity to work remotely all the time, or a mixture of office and remote working if you would prefer this as we have some temporary office space in the Brighton & Hove area.

We have an exciting permanent, full time Product Designer in our Transformation & Product team!

About the role:

At Crunch, our Product Vision is to empower the self employed to focus on business success and personal fulfilment, by transforming their financial management through the most efficient and intuitive accounting software and support.

This role will collaborate closely as part of a cross functional team in a dynamic and supportive environment, helping us bring our product vision to life with impactful and powerful designs. Working seamlessly with our product specialists to define and solve problems iteratively while seeing the bigger picture.

The role thrives on regular user and stakeholder feedback to help us provide intuitive and visually appealing design solutions that meet the needs of our existing and future users. This will support a deep understanding of our brand and how it resonates through our entire digital experience.

Role responsibilities:

  • Champion and evolve Crunch’s established Design System. Help to define design guidelines and standards as a gatekeeper of our user experience.
  • Clearly convey ideas and concepts to stakeholders in an impactful way, and build strong and enduring working relationships to help distil our product vision.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional Agile Scrum Teams, including product specialists, analysts, developers, testers, sales and marketing teams.
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of our brand, existing products and their features, and spot opportunities to enhance their designs.
  • Take ownership of all aspects of the design process of new products, from research and insight gathering, to ideation, prototyping, testing and implementation.
  • Have a deep understanding of our user base, business needs, related requirements and technical constraints of design solutions.
  • Adopt a user centric approach by owning user research, working with others in the team to recruit candidates, run regular interview sessions and gather qualitative and quantitative data to inform our decision making and solve problems iteratively.
  • Utilise the Jobs To Be Done (JTBD) framework to group users and turn interviewees into reference users.
  • Use rapid prototyping to prove hypotheses based on user interviews and enable us to experiment and validate our ideas.
  • Actively promote the concept of accessible product design and ensure this is incorporated into every design decision made.
  • Maintain a keen eye on competitor journeys to ensure that Crunch’s are the best in class, continually evolving and moving forward.
  • Stay up to date with product design trends and innovative design methods, and have a thirst for ongoing learning.
  • Embrace the usage of the Hibob system, which is being used by Crunch to complete regular 121 and review conversations, and for setting and tracking company and department Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).

About your skills and experience:

Essential:

  • Demonstrable experience of working for a product-led start up or scale up environment.
  • A passion for product design and innovation excellence that inspires others.
  • Accustomed to working on multiple priorities as part of a cross functional product or project team, engaging effectively and confidently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Availability of a self-produced portfolio of work examples and updates as evidence of ongoing skills development.
  • Experience working with Figma and other design tools (e.g Adobe Creative Suite.)
  • End to end design skills including practical development and/or maintenance of Design Systems.
  • A love for solving complex problems, with meticulous attention to detail and not leaving a single stone unturned.

Desirable:

  • A degree level qualification in design, product development or a related field.
  • Coaching and mentoring skills and the ability to share knowledge and insights with others.
  • An intuitive understanding of user centred designs to meet our business needs, with previous self-employment a plus.
  • Awareness of the features of a Software as a Service (SaaS) and/or FinTech business and topical issues within the wider business landscape.
  • Experience with front end development technologies such as HTML or JavaScript.
