13 reasons so many are going freelance

British freelancers mean big business, as more people than ever before opt to be their own boss.

To celebrate this giddy group of self-starters, IPSE, the association of Independent Professionals and the Self Employed, hosts an annual freelancer’s day. That day is today.

The government gave a further hoorah to freelancers today by responding to IPSE’s call for greater support for the self-employed and appointing David Morris as the UK’s first ever self-employed ambassador.

Simon McVicker, Director of Policy and External Affairs, said:

“The appointment of an ambassador for our sector shows that the Government are ready to take action on the issues facing the millions of people working independently across the UK. It is immensely encouraging to hear Mr Morris, MP for Morecambe & Lunesdale and a small business owner himself, will champion our cause at the very heart of Government.”

Successful freelancing isn’t easy and it takes a great deal of courage to make the leap from the comfortable arms of full-time employment. We took to Twitter to find out why people are choosing a new way of working.
