Our 10th year in business has been an incredible one. While we’ve always been driven by the desire to help self-employed people and microbusinesses thrive, the recent evolution of Crunch has extended this mission further.
We’re extremely proud of our success in the last year, and we’re excited to tell you that this success has been recognised in the form of two shiny awards in September, as well as moving up four places to 63rd place in the Accountancy Age top 50+50 ranking tables by company size and turnover!
The gong for Mid-Tier Firm of the Year was presented to the Crunch team on 25th September at the British Accountancy Awards. The ceremony, hosted by “8 Out of 10 Cats” star Sean Lock, also featured us in the nominations for the hotly-contested ‘Best Employer’ award.
This victory comes in addition to the Large Firm of the Year award, given to us by the judges at AccountingWEB’s Accounting Excellence awards earlier in the month. We were also very pleased to have been shortlisted in the Innovation and Client Service categories at the event, hosted by hugely popular comedian Katherine Ryan.
The winning formula
Crunch was founded on innovation in 2009 when entrepreneur Darren Fell created the first SaaS software plus service accountancy platform – a fixed-price cloud-based accounting service.
We quickly became a top 100 accountancy firm and the business model proved to be an industry game-changer, inspiring many imitators. We were the first to introduce free video calls for customers back in 2011, and we continue to innovate – recently becoming the first accountancy firm to offer in app-based live chat service allowing our clients to ask questions when they’re doing their accounts, as well as an interactive package builder to let new prospective clients choose the perfect limited company accountancy solution to fit their specific needs.
We’ve always believed that we need to work hard to make Crunch the best we can which is why we continue to invest heavily in research and development. We’ve poured £1.7m into research and development during our transformative 2018, and in early 2019 we launched an Open Banking solution to guarantee efficient and secure feeds into our online accounting software from a number of banks.
This year we’ve improved mobile usability and launched a mobile-first user interface for the Crunch platform, delivering even better mobile device functionality and user experience. Our clients can now access every Crunch product, service, and community directly from a single interface, rather than having to jump from application to application.
We’ve also upgraded to Salesforce’s ‘Lightning’ platform to streamline operations. This has allowed us to introduce dedicated service teams to give more seamless client service throughout the year, building a more streamlined onboarding process for new clients. It’s also allowed us to continue to grow our client base whilst keeping the same great award-winning service experience for our clients.
Our Crunch.co.uk website offers a huge range of jargon-free articles, business guides, videos and tools to help people run their businesses and keep on top of their business finances.
We’re now the UK’s most popular accountancy website with over 3.6 million page views from over 1.5 million users in the first six months of 2019 – an increase of over 90% year on year. Our free self-employed community Crunch Chorus has also grown by more than 250% and now sits at more than 35,000 members.
