Margot James, MP for Stourbridge, has been announced as Minister for Small Business, Consumers, and Corporate Responsibility.
Taking over from Anna Soubry, Margot James previously served as Assistant Government Whip from May 2015 until July 2016. James also has a background in business, co-founding Shire Health Group (a public relations and clinical trials organisation) in 1986.
With something of a wide remit, James will be responsible for a range of issues alongside small businesses, including deregulation and regulatory reform, the national minimum wage, and local growth.
Crunch Chorus campaigning
Crunch Chorus, our free-to-join community for micro-businesses, will be looking to talk directly to Margot James to make her fully aware of the challenges faced by the smallest enterprises in the UK, including freelancers, contractors, and small-business owners. Making up 96% of UK businesses, this is a sector that cannot be ignored.
Two items at the top of our agenda will be discussing the planned reforms to dividend taxes and IR35 legislation. As always, we’ll keep you updated with our progress.
