Quirky replacements for humble lorem ipsum text seem to have become de rigueur online in the last few years. We thought we’d take the opportunity to put together a big old list of lorem ipsum alternatives so the designers amongst you can do some window shopping and choose one that is the perfect match for your custom-print birkenstocks and ironic moustache.
What the hell is lorem ipsum?
For those of you not of a design disposition, lorem ipsum is dummy text used as a placeholder for the real text of a website or other mockup during the design process. Although it may look like Latin, it’s actually just gibberish designed to be ignored. Any time you see lorem ipsum, just think “real text will be here eventually”. It looks like this –
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nibh euismod tincidunt ut laoreet dolore magna aliquam erat volutpat. Ut wisi enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullam corper suscipit lobortis nisl ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat.
Alternatives
Pirate Ipsum – What do you get if you cross a pirate with a rapper? Arrr Kelly (sorry)!
Fillerati – If you’re a fan of classic literature, this is yours. Choose from the likes of Lewis Carroll and H. G. Wells.
Bacon Ipsum – If you’re a lover of pig and pig by-products, give this delicious alternative a try.
Veggie Ipsum – Bacon Ipsum a little too meaty for you? This vegetarian alternative should sort you out.
TV Intros – Extracts such as the opening monologue of the A-Team and the Thundercats theme tune. Classy.
Lorizzle – If you’re a Snoop Dogg (or Lion, or Panda, or whatever he’s calling himself these days) fan, this will suit you down to the grizzle.
