How Crunch grew smarter and sleeker this year
At Crunch, evolving our product to better serve small businesses and freelancers isn’t just a goal, it’s a commitment. In 2024/25, we focused on delivering smarter tools, modern experiences, and seamless compliance. Driven by your feedback and regulatory updates from Companies House and HMRC, every change we made was designed to help you spend less time on bookkeeping and more time on your business.
As we settle into the 2025/26 tax year, let’s take a look back at the progress we made over the past year.
Supporting Sole Traders, front and centre
We started the new tax year by putting Sole Traders first. Our goal was to remove friction, improve tax planning, and save time during Self Assessment season.
New Personal Tax Estimator
We introduced a smart personal tax estimator, right on your Crunch homepage. Using your real-time data, we provide an estimate of your current tax position and a full-year projection, helping you plan and prepare with confidence.
Sole Trader Self Assessment workbook
We launched a new Self Assessment workbook, automating calculations to reduce manual work, helping our accountants produce and file your Personal Tax returns smoothly, accurately, and on time.
Dashboard redesign
The Self Assessment dashboard got a visual and functional glow-up. Cleaner, more intuitive, and easy to navigate. It proves that accounting tools don’t have to be old school.
Rebuilding Crunch from the ground up
A major focus for 2024 was continuing our rebuild of our Crunch software. We’re replacing the classic view with a new, modern Beta experience that’s easier to use, more responsive, and packed with updated features.
Highlights include:
- Rebuilt features
You can now add, edit, or delete "Interest Received" entries, attach files to invoices, apply filters, and view detailed totals for sales and payments—all within the Beta view. - Archiving made easy
With our new feature, you can now easily archive any inactive suppliers or clients in just a few clicks. This means you can clean up your account by tucking away what you no longer need—bringing them back anytime you want. - Daily bank feed imports
One of our most requested features of the year: daily automatic statement uploads via bank feeds. Say goodbye to manual uploads or waiting to bring your account up to date. This was a game-changer for many clients.
Making workflows smarter
As the Beta rebuild progressed, we continued to unlock more functionality.
Direct payment entries in beta reconciliation
Ever found yourself reconciling your bank account and discovering a missing payment? Now, you can quickly add more new payments directly from the reconciliation screen with the “+ New payment in Crunch” button. No backtracking, no time lost.
CrunchPay launched
We believe everyone deserves to get paid on time. CrunchPay lets you add payment links to your invoices, making it easier than ever for clients to pay you. Initially available to Free subscribers, it’s rolling out more widely soon—stay tuned!
Keeping Crunch compliant & current
As tax season approached, we made sure Crunch was fully aligned with regulatory requirements.
- Updated tax thresholds & rates
Our software was refreshed to reflect the latest HMRC updates, ensuring accuracy across the board. - Payroll enhancements
We introduced automatic Employer National Insurance Contributions (NICs) calculations for directors' salaries. This helps users take a tax-efficient salary in 2025/26, without needing the Payroll add-on.
