At Crunch, we believe that connecting with our audience means having a clear voice, a helping hand, and a little bit of fun. And when it comes to crafting that distinctive tone, Vicki Nichols, our Marketing Communications and Content Manager, is one of the people who make it happen.
From crafting pun-filled newsletters to producing in-depth guides, Vicki makes sure our clients and community receive content that is both useful and authentically "Crunch."
Inside the role of a Marketing Communications and Content Manager
1. You've been with Crunch for 18 months! Can you tell us a little about what you do?
My role’s pretty varied. I work with my team to create content that’s engaging, useful, and distinctly Crunch. We handle most of what you see written down for Crunch: articles, downloadable guides, resources, emails, socials, website copy. Basically, if it’s got words on it, we’ve probably written it. Unless you don’t like it… then it definitely wasn’t us.
I’d say around 90% of my job is "Crunchifying" something, and the other 10% is all about strategy, planning, designing, and helping the comms & content team hit our goals.
2. Sounds like you're busy! Can you walk us through what a typical day looks like for you?
No two days are the same, but they all start with caffeine and a to-do list that laughs in my face. Between writing, editing, planning, and “quick” meetings that definitely aren’t quick, I spend most of my day turning chaos into Crunch-worthy content.
3. With so many moving pieces in your role, what’s one project you’ve worked on recently that had a big impact on improving the client experience?
One of my favourite recent projects was our 123 campaign, where Marketing “took over” and we had a bit of fun with it. We used tongue-in-cheek graphics featuring our CEO and Founder “tied up” while the Marketing team ran wild with the messaging. It was playful, unexpected, and got brilliant engagement across channels. It’s one of those projects that reminded me how far a good sense of humour (and a bold creative idea) can go.
4. How do you go above and beyond to support your clients or team? Can you give an example?
I like to think my team knows I am always up for jumping in wherever I am needed. Whether that is joining a spontaneous video call, rolling up my sleeves to tackle a tricky task, or helping carry the load when things get hectic, I want them to feel like I have their back no questions asked.
Let’s learn a little bit more about you
We all know that behind every great role, there’s a person with a unique story.
5. Tell us an interesting fact about yourself!
In a past job the team were total Christmas Scrooges so for the whole of December I went fully festive every day. Jumpers, t-shirts, bauble earrings, Christmas themed glasses, tinsel in my hair, sparkly Santa socks, Santa hats, reindeer headbands and even jingle bell necklaces. Someone had to make the office feel like Christmas.
6. Do you have any hidden talents that might surprise us?
I’m weirdly good at playing Mortal Kombat and Tekken, so good that my husband refuses to play with me. Which is impressive, considering in real life I’m an absolute klutz, to the point where I somehow broke my ankle playing badminton. On a PlayStation though? Somehow I’m a bit of a ninja.
