If you’re a UX freelancer (one of those front page web interface design types), you may not always know how much you should expect to get paid in the industry.

According to the latest statistics, UX contractors have been enjoying a steady increase in both demand for their services, and the fees they can negotiate for their time and effort.

Rising demand and daily rates

UK contract rates for UX designers over the last few years have climbed steadily. The median daily rate now sits at £450 per day, up from £425 in late 2018. London leads the way with a median of £475 per day, while outside the capital, the median is £402 per day.

What does this mean hourly?

Assuming an eight-hour working day, this translates roughly to:

  • £59/hour in London
  • £50/hour outside London
  • £56/hour UK-wide average
