QLICK.XYZ founder Stefan turned to freelancing as a stopgap in 2015, and has never looked back. Stefan offers some words of wisdom for aspiring small business owners.
Success doesn’t happen without hard work, but sometimes in life, we just need a nudge in the right direction. This was certainly the case for QLICK.XYZ founder Stefan Boettcher, who was made redundant in 2015.
“I was on the train back home from London to Bournemouth, going through all the options I had,” he says. “Then thought about freelancing as an intermediate stepping stone and as it was something I could do immediately, and remotely. Having a young family at the time to provide for added to the pressure, but looking back, I think was probably the best accelerator and motivation to make things work."
Five years later, Stefan’s reaping the rewards of being his own boss, and hasn’t looked back, and has even branched out into podcasting about business and entrepreneurship!
“If I can give one bit of advice, just go for it! You should be living and designing your own life, on your own terms as much as possible. And that can only really happen (this is my opinion), when you work for yourself.”

We received brilliant support from Luke and Karly regarding securing our first mortgage. They were both extremely helpful and very quick to respond to our questions. Given our tricky situation, myself being a contractor and my partner in full-time work it required a bit of back and forth with the lender however it was very quickly sorted and our mortgage approved. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Crunch to friends especially those who are self-employed/contractors. Thank you!
I have taken the plunge and gone part time in a new business and have found crunch idea to take the pressure off me from a financial side . I had an outstanding call yesterday with Danielle who went above and beyond to help me and be patient due to dyslexia and lack of confidence in form filling. The way she was with me was simply outstanding, and I now have an excellent overview of how to input and generate invoices. This would not have been achieved but for this wonderfully patient client support manager thank you so much, and what I thought was going to be a clunky process has turned out to be far easier than I thought. Simply brilliant support
